Crime in Colombia

Crime in Colombia is due mainly to illicit drugs. In the year 2007 there were 167, 000 hectares of land used in the cultivation of the opium poppy and cannabis.

This amount of cultivation provides 535 metric tons of pure cocaine to be shipped to the US and Europe, mainly.

Colombia is the key producer of cocaine and cannabis world wide.

That country is divided into regions controlled by four of five drug "cartels" that maintain an on-going drug war that accounts for a large amount of deaths every year.

Last year in Colombia there were 26, 539 murders, 22, 000 with fire arms.

Colombia is a beautiful country full of beautiful people that really do not deserve that unrequested situation. They are peace loving people and deserve peace.
