Poison and Antidote: a look into violence in Colombia

Thank author of this post/commentBrazilian director Estevão Ciavatta's documentary Poison and Antidote: a look into violence in Colombia shows Colombia´s quest for pathways to peace, amidst a violent internal conflict. Within the past 10 years, Colombia has become a reference in public safety policies. Bogotá and Medellín, which until the 90´s were examples of chaos and urban violence, have managed to control crime rates within the last decade. The country, however, is still experiencing an intense armed conflict, which broke out over 40 years ago. The apparent tranquility of the two main Colombian urban centers clashes with the conflicts in the rural areas. In the small towns and in the countryside, paramilitaries, the guerilla and the governmental forces are fighting a bloody battle for territory. Poison and Antidote: a look into violence in Colombia is part of a project that afroreggae Cultural Group (GCAR) and Pindorama Filmes are developing together: a documentary about experiences of peace in conflict situations in different regions around the world. What are these people strategies to find a way towards peace, justice and reconciliation? Is it possible to be neutral in the middle of a war? Who are the people that dedicate their lives to this quest?

All my life I have always been devoted to promote peace since I came from a very peaceful family and war was never an option to each one of us. I have always tried my best to keep a peaceful surrounding. I mean everything can always be negotiated only if people are calm and understanding. Sometimes, I feel for those victims of war and misunderstandings. Moreover, we have to be very vigilant when it comes to violence and force. We all deserve peace of mind.

I may say that crimes are present in any place that we go. And I think even how strong the security in a particular place still there are criminals and there will be victims. I feel sorry to see the violence happening in Colombia. I just hope that the authorities and the government will do something to increase the safety and security of the people there. Thanks for the video.

I think in answer to the question is it possible to be neutral in a war, then that depends upon you as a person. If you are afraid for your safety most of all, then it can be difficult to be neutral, as neither side will easily believe your neutrality. On the other hand, if you wish to be neutral as a matter of principle, yes, I believe you can, but with great difficulty.
