| Video: Fast Learner Fast Learner October 13, 2009 Interview with Peter Jennings Scholar Wilson Acuna. Born and raised in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Wilson Andres Acuna first moved to New York as a 17-year-old in 2006. By his own account, he wasnt especially happy to be here. I came to New York to be with my father, who had been living here for a few years, recalls Acuna, one of three BMCC students to receive the 2009 Peter Jennings Scholarship Laurel Award. The award recognizes the achievements of outstanding CUNY students who have earned a General Equivalency Diploma through a special CUNY program. Its named in honor of the late ABC News anchor Peter Jennings, who never completed high school or earned a college degree. From the time I came here I missed Colombia and always wanted to go home, Acuna recalls. Finally, he did—on vacation in December 2007. The trip was an eye-opener. Getting unstuck I realized my life wasnt in Colombia any more, he says. Id been living away for two years, and Bucaramanga no longer had the appeal it once did. So I returned to New York knowing Id have to do something to get unstuck and move forward in my life. A CUNY community college seemed the best option. Acuna chose BMCC despite the fact that Hostos Community College was within walking distance of his home and BMCC was a 40-minute subway ride away. | I have to agree that despite the fact that you do not finish your education at some point you can still do something to uplift your self and do something that even those who graduated and have a diploma cannot accomplish. But still I believe that it is still important that we still go to school and get ourselves a formal education because we deserve it. Anyway, good luck to all of us. |
| Learning a particular foreign language is not easy. It is important to master your own language first before you can master other languages. But if you put determination and diligence in studying a language without hesitations, I think you can really do it. Moreover, it is also an advantage if you enter an excellent language school so that your teachers can give you adequate instruction about the topic. Great day. |
| Language is an important tool in communicating.I know a lot of people that spending their entire life learning English. Well, basically English should be learn as early as 7 years old. It is our international language and it will be soon use to communicate with other race. it is important to know and understand some of the basic concepts regarding this matter. I am really excited to know more about this area. |
| I really love the idea that much places in many parts of the world about the language schools we have. It is a good feeling that many people are in good terms about the great deal for that matter.
